Since the Massachusetts Institute of Technology developed the world's first CNC engraving machine in 1952, CNC engraving machines have been widely used in the manufacturing industry, especially in the automotive, aerospace, and military industries. CNC technology has developed rapidly in both hardware and software aspects. This article will take stock of the reasons for using CNC machining for parts.
There are many reasons for using CNC technology for part processing, which we summarize as follows:
1. The required parts are not standardized and cannot be obtained directly from the supplier.
In practical applications, it may be difficult for us to obtain standard parts. When engineers are making a new production tool, they often need to perform customized processing because not all parts can be purchased from suppliers, otherwise they need to be purchased at a premium. The customized machining of these parts using CNC technology may be very simple, such as non-standard size or material gears or buttons.
2. The required parts have unique functions that standard parts do not have.
For parts with special requirements, customized processing may be required, such as customized sockets, additional functions, or text engraving. Using CNC technology can easily produce parts with unique functions on existing parts.
3. Multiple parts can be merged into one part.
In many cases, custom machining is used to manufacture parts or large components with multiple features. Due to these components being customized and ordered for specific projects, they may be heavily biased towards specific end uses. Standardization or universal components are useless.
4. High quality parts can be manufactured in a timely manner in emergency situations, and the machining workshop can accept small batches.
Whether it is metal processing (aluminum, brass, stainless steel, etc.) or plastic processing, it has all the conventional advantages and functions of on-demand CNC. Even in emergency situations, due to the short setup time and low minimum order quantity, high-quality parts can be quickly produced.
